Star Island shines as one of the most desirable, prestigious, and priciest places to live in South Florida. Surrounded by Biscayne Bay’s warm waters, the island is home to Miami’s wealthiest residents and celebrities. A white bridge from the MacArthur Causeway provides the only land access and the entrance guardhouse and tight security ensure a high level of privacy. Star Island has the South Beach zip code 33139 and local government services are provided by the City of Miami Beach. Shopping, dining and entertainment amenities are nearby; east from the Causeway to Miami Beach (entered at 5th street and Alton Road) and west to Downtown Miami.
The exclusive island was conceived and created in 1922 as part of pioneer developer Carl Fisher‘s dream city of Miami Beach. With only 40 waterfront lots of more than an acre and dockage for large yachts it soon became a playground for the super-rich. Today there are only 34 (?) estates homes, some on double or triple lots; all have expansive water and city views.
Flowers bloom amid tropical vegetation with abundant royal palms, banyan trees and live oaks draped in Spanish moss. A tree-lined median divides the island’s two streets lined with waterfront mansions. Architectural styles of homes with exquisite detailing — fountains, archways, columns and courtyards — range from 1920s Mediterranean Revival and Neo-Classical to Modern. Many homes are concealed by high hedges or walls with impressive gates marking their entrances.
