City of Sunny Isles Beach Promises “World Class” Services

According to The Miami Herald, the city of Sunny Isles Beach recently approved a budget for the upcoming fiscal year that will focus on providing “world class services and maintenance” for residents and visitors of the municipality. The city has grown exponentially over the years and the government appears to be moving away from capital projects and instead focusing on improving existing services.
Of the $76 million budget, much of it will go towards towards improving existing infrastructure and providing better services. Operating expenses for the year compared the prior year grew by 9% to $49.3 million which shows a desire to dedicate more funds to maintenance and services over the coming years.
While the budget is a decrease from this year’s $93 million budget, residents of Sunny Isle Condos shouldn’t worry. Much of the decreases are attributed to the completion of major capital projects such as one-off projects like the construction of a new park and two pedestrian bridges.
That means there is more money being dedicated to spend throughout the city.
In addition, the new fiscal year’s budget will focus on increasing the reserve from $13 million to $19 million to ensure there is money on the side for contingencies. This is critical as in the case of this year, the city spent $1 million to reconstruct a seawall that collapsed using reserve funds. These funds help ensure that there is money that can be immediately put to these issues while maintaining financial solvency.
