Introducing Miami’s Faena Arts CenterJanuary 12, 2015
This new year is set to bring a very welcomed addition to Miami Beach in the form of an arts center designed by Rem Koolhaas, which will be called the Faena Forum. This 50,000 square foot institution, which will be located at 32nd Street and Collins Avenue, will have a focus on the development of cultural programming.
The team of the Faena Forum is working with Faena Buenos Aires, located in Argentina, and the arts center will create a public forum to focus on topics of arts, sciences, technology, politics, and urbanism. Also, one interesting aspect of this forum is that it will be capable of providing a space for dialogues about Latin American cultural practices.
The mission and program of the Faena Forum will be overseen by Ximena Caminos, who is also the executive director of the Faena Art Buenos Aires, and she will be joined by an advisory committee made up of arts professionals.
The structure for the Faena Forum continues to be under construction and will provide a few large flexible spaces for new projects, performances, and events. This project is developed by Mr. Faena and it will be located in the center of the Faena District in Miami Beach.
The art center will have a cylindrical portion that was inspired by the Pantheon in Rome. This will be a 40 foot dome that will have a spiraling walkway that connects the ground floor to a central glazed oculus.
Thus far, it sounds like the Faena Forum will bring a unique element to the art’s scene in Miami and add new perspectives in the artistic conversation in this thriving and diverse city.
